Volunteer Family Highlight: Meet the Blackwell Family!

Meet Kevin, Brenda, and their daughter, Jordan, who is a Sophomore majoring in Biomedical Engineering from Wexford, PA.

What made your family choose UTK?
The University of Tennessee has always felt like home. From our very first visit in 2015 when my oldest daughter, Jada, attended registration, (she’s an alumni of UTK) and five years later in 2020 when my youngest Jaelyn daughter decided to attend, we have always the pride, passion and leadership from administration, students and orientation leaders.

What has been the highlight of your Volunteer family experience?
The highlight of our family experience is watching my daughter excel in academics and her love for the school. She has transitioned from a quite, shy freshman to having a voice in her sorority, clubs and this year, she will be a resident assistant for University Housing.

What advice would you give to other families and students?
I would encourage parents to listen to your child. Their fears and/or concerns. Encourage them to be the best they can be. Volunteer if you can on campus. It really does make a difference.

Family Engagement would love to feature you and your Volunteer family! From first-years to graduate students, we want to highlight our families to learn more about their Volunteer experience. Submit your Volunteer Family Story!
